z4 roof help

I have a 2003 z4 I'm having problems opening the roof. I have to manualy open the roof about 6" before the red light comes on. Then it opens almost all the way. It closes with no problems. After reading several threads I have an idea it might be the micro swith it the trunk. How can I test or jump that swith? I appreciate any help you can give-thanks!

If the micro switch is in the wrong position, the roof will unlock but not retract.

To check this, manually lower the roof and and then attempt to raise the roof as normal. If it goes up, then the switch is bad.....

When I press the button with the roof closed there is no light at the switch. When I maually open the roof several inches the light comes on. After reengaging the red handle in the trunk the roof will open about 3/4 of the way. Then I have to manually open it the rest of the way. The roof closes with no problems. I have taken the switch out and re connected the lever on it. I have confirmed that the lever on the roof tray does slide down and triggers the lever on the microswith. From what I'm gathering from you is you believe the micro switch is bad. I've read in previuos threads that there is a way to put some jumpers in to temporarily bypass the swich. Do you know anything about this? I've also read some people disconnecting the battery then reconnecting it to reset it. What do you think about that idea? I appreciat your help. Thanks
