intermittent starting problem

hey new here trying to help friend with his z4 the car wil not start every once in a while stopped by his place trunk and locks worked interior lights were on but no start checked battery he has a really nice dry cell optima that i took to auto parts store checked out ok he says this has happened before along with sometimes slow start guy at the auto parts store said they wont deal with bmws anymore per coperate because of a known ecu or ecm problem can anyone tell us more and how to fix?

Intermittent starting problems are hard to diagnose. Certainly the guy at the auto parts store is not your best choice. I would recommend you take the car to a reputable independent BMW specialists. You can find one near you here: BMW Repair Shops - Find a BMW Mechanic | BimmerShops.com

BTW, the auto parts store "guy" is lying when he states "corporate" policy is to no longer "deal with BMWs".
