Hi, my dad has a 2002 X5 (3.0 diesel), does someone knows how to reset the SIL? I can't even find the connector on the engine bay. On other BMWs, five and three series it is visible but I don't see it on the X5, is it in other place or does it has a different system?
Vehicles outside of the 2000 year mark DO NOT have a 20 pin connector under the hood, the SIA reset is done via the instrument cluster or the BMW GT1 machine. try this, press and hold the left button (I may be wrong and it might be the right button) on the instrument cluster, turn key on while holding this button hold until the Service Indicator flashes release button and press again this will reset the SIL. Good luck.
Thanks, I will give it a try. I think this car has only the reset odometer button. I will give this a try and let you know if I need more help. Maybe I could bring a picture of the dashboard and post it.
the inspection light is reset the same way as the oil service indicatior, but other lights (like check engine and so forth) have to be reset with a scan tool

dear,
i had the same problem with my 2002, X5 4.4 petrol, but this solution didnt work on my car. I am still not able to reset the SIL. any alternatives?
thanks
I was lucky to reset the SIL lights. I don't have the exact procedure I followed, but it was something like press the button (In my case the trip odometer reset button), turn the ignition while keeping the button pressed. Wait until the display shows reset it will show some messages.
The dash on this car is the most simple one, it doesn't show alphanumeric info, just the odometer, ext temp, kms able to travel with the actual fuel, etc.
