x5 auto gearbox

ONLY when cold when I engage "drive" it takes 2 or 3 revs before the car moves forward - rest of the day all ok.
When I engage "reverse" from cold no problem.
Any ideas please.

2003X5 problem with transfer case resulting in broken all wheel drive chain causing chain to break and locking front wheels and breaking both front axels
