I am chasing an Intermittent no start problem on my 2007 X3 3.0si with 60,000 miles. We have had this car for 4 years with no problems. The last few weeks it intermittently won't start but turns over good. Can cycle the key a few times and it will start but sometimes has no power until I restart it another time. I changed the crank sensor first and the problem continued. Want to check the fuel pressure but this x3 doesn't have a shrader valve on the fuel rail. Is there a way to check the fuel pressure on this vehicle? Thanks in advance! Any help will be appreciated!
Update: Intermittent no start - 2A38 Sluggish Valvetronic Actuator. I believe this is my problem. Should I purchase one ($300) and install it myself or take it to the dealer to be sure?
After lots of research and too much money spent my 2007 x3 is fixed.
If you have an intermittent no start or other running problems there is one thing you should check which could save you some time and money. The eccentric shaft sensor is inside the valve cover and sometimes gets filled with oil causing all kinds of intermittent running problems. This sensor is easily inspected by removing the vanity cover and pulling the plug. If the plug is full of oil the sensor is most likely your problem. This is not an easy or cheap replacement. Here is a link to a very good writeup on this:
