Hood Latch Stuck

My wife's 2004 X3 has a stuck hood latch and I can't open the hood. The cable doesn't seem to have broken - there is resistance when pulling on the cabin lever. Hood seems to raise microscopically when lever pulled but doesn't raise up to allow hood to be opened.

Any thoughts? I had the Mrs. pull back lever while I tried raising hood, but no luck.

Maybe if you carefully press down on it, then have her pull it, and then release and pull up on the hood...

If still stuck then you have to contact with some specialist mechanic for the better assistance.

I sometimes have the same issue with my E38, and I have found that by putting really light pressure (slightly more than resting the wieght of your hands & arms on the bonnet whilst the release lever is actuated will do the job. Any more weight and its too much.

BMW bonnet release levers are very flimsey at the best of times... As Brett says, just keep putting pressure on the hood in a "Bouncing" motion while a friend holds the lever out at its max...
When it eventually opens, grease the latch !
