BMW x3 alternator

So recently my alternator has just wanted be stupid. So my question is can I take a alternator out of another model BMW and put it on my 04 x3. I really low on money so I was thinking of junkyard and they have a few 1999 328 i and some other ones

The E46 and the X3 are different models and different engines. An E46 alternator will most likely not bolt up correctly and thus wont work.

The what BMW could I take an alternator off of that's not an x model
