Odor left behind by carpet cleaners

Every time I use the automotive brands, it leaves behind an odor.
The last one, (had some Oxy in it) just Horrible.
Almost every one suggests that you : spray/ brush/vacuum
What gives?
I don't want to try the flowery ones from the supermarket.
Any suggestions on how to get this awful smell out?

Also, how would you describe the odor?

I've used blue coral and tuff stuff with oxy. Both for carpets.
The odor is hard to describe. a cross between a gym sock and wet moldy leather.
If you got caught in the rain, stepped in a few muddy puddles with your leather shoes, and then let them sit out for a few days.

Wow...that does sound bad. My guess is there is moisture underneath the carpeting still from the cleaning products.

I've used carpet cleaner before with oxy clean and I've never had this problem before so this sounds strange.

One thing I would recommend trying is getting a box of Arm & Hammer baking soda and let it sit in your car over night with the box lid open. It should be able to absorb the odors similar to how it would absorb odors in a refrigerator.
