How did the faded spots come about?

Is the clear coat gone?

You may need to have it primed and painted.

not true (says my paint guy). my 93 325 is a little faded on some spots and he said it could be buffed out easy. See buffers heat up the paint and they can do amazing things (such as screw up your paint)

If you use a rotary buffer be careful and practice first, otherwise you will probably do damage to your paint. Also make sure you only use it on low speeds(1000-1200 RPMS) until you become experienced.

Otherwise I would suggest using a cyclo polisher or porter cable(7424 I think), you won't harm your paint with that and it should do a damn good job depending on the products you use with it.

Rotary buffer will give more professional results but I would reccomend using an orbital polisher.
