Currently using Mobil 1 0W-40, in a 2000 328i. Just passed 200K, with no leaks or burn.

Just follow what is stated on your manual. And if you want to spend more money, you can't go wrong with Mobil 1 and Castrol.

I second this. I've been using it for the past 50,000 and highly recommend it.

Oil experience

I just sold my 2008 335iDinan with 285,000 km. From new, it used a litre of oil in 20,000km, then I would add a litre of Castrol 5/30 full synthetic and after another 9,000 km or so, it was ready for the BMW recommended oil change, which I had done at a BMW dealer. After the last oil change, it is still on the way to making 20,000 on the first litre. I just sold the car and my 335is will be treated the same.

Well as they say your mileage will vary - some of it depends on what you consider to be 'the best' - there is a lot of info out there, so depending on your perspective, the car’s current situation, and intended purpose...

Regardless of the base stock used by the manufacture of the motor oil, there are about 3 major oil ingredient manufactures from which the oil manufactures can make / source their secret recipe from. Of course what each oil mfg. specifies in their formula could make or not assist as much in what's rotating...

We've been using the Motul 8100 X-cess in our street cars and then the 300V for the track cars with great success.
On the e36 series, it seems to slightly quiet down the Vanos systems on cars that may not have had the best environment in the past. Similar results on the e46 series. They also have a BMW M-Series oil weight of 10W60 available.

BMW recently changed their official oil supplier from Castrol to Shell - our local dealer flushed out their Castrol stock in Feb of 2015. Shell's oil new base stock technology is interestingly based off of natural gas, which has a nice ecological ring to it.

Reg Oil Changing of Vehicle

I usually use Mobil brand oil. Although you can use oil of any brand, and it hardly matters.

Hi Jack FI, I owe BMW 2 series 2010 model. Last month I was online and came across two sites http://Bimmershops.com/bmwshops/new-york/ and https://Yourmechanic.com/cars/BMW to know about the best engine oil for my vehicle but they have not specifically mentioned it. Presently I am using Mobil Oil. My friend has also suggested me for Mobil oil.

Hey @ JackF1

Mobil 1 is among the set performance motor oil options officially recommended by the BMW. If you are interested in getting a bottle for your BMW, take a look at our full selection of Mobil 1 motor oils here: https://www.carid.com/mobil-1/

You can find other options offered by another manufacturers here as well: https://www.carid.com/motor-oil.html

Feel free to ask away, if any additional questions appear.
