It seems that the 3M's Clear Polyurethane Films are becoming popular. I've noticed a few on various new cars dealer lots. Does it hinder the waxing/polishing/glazing/buffing steps in keeping that showroom shine? Does anyone have it?
I'm thinking about getting this on my new 330xi. Just curious.. it sure does look nice... thinking about all the chipping of the hood paint that could occur while driving on the freeway.. I always seem to get stuck behind those 1 ton trucks hauling gravel. Aarhhh.... ghead
My dad had that 3M protection film on his '02 Carrera and the car constantly appeared to have serious swirl marks where the film was applied. It does prevent against some stone chips however the larger ones will still definitely show even with the film. I wouldn't recommend getting it, if you are concious not to drive directly behind trucks you probably won't get many stone chips. And if you do get some small chips they can be touched up and it won't look as bad as having swirls all over the front of your car, especially if your car is black.
Well, I decided to have it installed. Approx $240 w/5 year warranty. The flim goes barely mid-way to the BMW logo on the hood -- that's good. I was afraid it was going to be higher like I've seen on some Hondas. It's small and discrete. Anyways it looks nice on my Alpine White 330xi.
