Those cars have been done forever. The driver basically has a hole in the floorboard and has the rear brakes independent from one another for steering. You can see at the end of the video the front end of the car is going left/right a little bit, he's steering.
I did some diggin, I'd heard that before too. The song was from "Gone in 60 Seconds". Its called "Flower".
Lyrics from some lyrics place:
Green sally up
Green sally down
Lift and squat
Gotta tear the ground
One miss luckys dead and gone
Left me here to weap and moan
If you hate if fold your arms
If you love it clap your hands

Anyone that does things to the extreme, every automotive sport has those guys. The top fuel drag racers go the 1/4 mile in 4.5 seconds and at 330 mph. Nascar goes almost 200 (faster before the damn restrictor plate racing) for 500 miles, inches apart from each other. Super Bikes leaning WAY to far over for my taste at 100mph in the curves and 180 in the straights. Indy League drivers @ 225mph. Every one of these guys yearn to go faster, finish quicker etc.
The 1/4 mile wheelie is just another way for someone to vent their need to accomplish something.
At my local dragstrip there is a '57 chevy that sports a 5-speed tranny with apparently the heaviest flywheel you can put on a small block chevy. This guy revs the motor to what sounds like 6 grand, dumps the clutch and pulls 3 outta 4 wheels off the ground, the front end starts to come down and he grabs another gear, and hes on 2 wheels again. He pulls the front wheels through the first 3 gears. This guy has the motor in the front where its supposed to be, instead of over the rear end though.
lol unlike this "made for movie" scene where our buddy Vin, at the same time no less, spins the tires AND pulls the front wheels used used ......ummmm....no that wont happen. check out the hydraulic powered bars on wheels that lifted the front end for ol' Vin.

whats also funny about that is that he broke the staging lights with the front wheels, and because he was riding a wheelie, his BACK tires broke the lights at the end of the track, that car should be slightly faster :P
