SHAHAB323IS: i need some help
SEPH559: what up
SEPH559: is your house haunted or something?
SHAHAB323IS: no my car starts and won't stay on
SEPH559: how long does it run?
SHAHAB323IS: like a second
SHAHAB323IS: it says tail light failure
SEPH559: any check engine codes?
SHAHAB323IS: and the driver's side tail light and parking light don't work
SHAHAB323IS: but turn signal does
SEPH559: ok that has nothing to do with why your car doesn't run
SEPH559: unless it's an ECU short
SHAHAB323IS: also windows, vanity lights in sun visors?, map lights, dome light don't work
SEPH559: but then it wouldn't start at all
SHAHAB323IS: so it's not an ecu short
SEPH559: well it's definitely electrical
SEPH559: if your car starts that eliminates the battery being dead
SHAHAB323IS: ok hold on i'll be right back ok
SEPH559: does it run rough or ok?
SHAHAB323IS: if i hold the gas down it runs fine
SHAHAB323IS: when i let go of the gas
SHAHAB323IS: it shuts off immediately
SEPH559: does it stay alive when you keep the gas on?
SHAHAB323IS: yes
SEPH559: easy
SEPH559: ok
SEPH559: here's the problem
SEPH559: stuck ICV
SEPH559: guaranteed
SHAHAB323IS: would that just happen all of a sudden
SEPH559: WD40 that sombitch
SEPH559: did it have idle issues before
SEPH559: ?
SHAHAB323IS: like very minute
SEPH559: it may also be that there's a blown fuse
SHAHAB323IS: like very very minute
SEPH559: check your fuse box
SHAHAB323IS: any fuse?
SEPH559: look for a popped one
SEPH559: they tend to stick out
SHAHAB323IS: because let me tell you the problems started when i rushed a v1 hardwire install
SEPH559: where'd you wire it from?
SHAHAB323IS: i checked all the fuses they're fine
SHAHAB323IS: sunroof switch
SHAHAB323IS: and when i turned on the v1 the sunroof opened then it wouldn't close
SEPH559: hahahahahhaha
SEPH559: dude
SHAHAB323IS: what
SEPH559: you wired it to the wrong side of the switch
SEPH559: you have to wire it BEFORE the switch
SHAHAB323IS: omfg
SHAHAB323IS: you're right
SHAHAB323IS: but where do i wire it before it
SHAHAB323IS: like there's 4 wires
SHAHAB323IS: and i wired it to those
SHAHAB323IS: black/yellow and brown for ground
SEPH559: anywhere before the switch
SEPH559: you have to trace the wires
SEPH559: if the wire goes down into the car
SEPH559: that's good
SEPH559: if it goes up into the sunroof to the motor it's bad
SHAHAB323IS: how about the map lights
SEPH559: same
SEPH559: wire it before the switch
SHAHAB323IS: but i don't know where i can find that
SHAHAB323IS: like it's the box or the switch with shit coming
SHAHAB323IS: how far back do i gotta trace
SEPH559: as far as it takes to find out where the wire goes
SEPH559: did you read about this before you did it?
SHAHAB323IS: well i did my buddies e46
SHAHAB323IS: earlier
SEPH559: there should be wiring diagrams or at least what color goes to where
SHAHAB323IS: then i was like oh hell i'll do it too
SEPH559: his car is ok?
SHAHAB323IS: works fine
SHAHAB323IS: lol
SEPH559: well I'll tell you this
SHAHAB323IS: i also made a cheap weighted selector rod
SEPH559: red is almost always power
SEPH559: black is almost always ground
SHAHAB323IS: there is no red or black lol
SEPH559: then there's a hot wire
SHAHAB323IS: on my buddies we grounded it to a brown ground wire
SEPH559: you have to cut them open to find it
SHAHAB323IS: and tapped the power from the unused universal transmitter power
SHAHAB323IS: well i read that the purple and white wire is the hot wire for the map lights
SEPH559: you need a voltmeter
SHAHAB323IS: but when i tapped that it didn't work and then the lights stopped working
SHAHAB323IS: not to mention the windows stopped working
SEPH559: and you need to take your time to do it right
SEPH559: ok you totally fuxored your wiring dude
SHAHAB323IS: yeah i know that now
SEPH559: whatever place on the wire you cut or whatever you have to repair
SHAHAB323IS: how so
SEPH559: you need a crimping tool and some repair sleeves from radio shack
SEPH559: or at least some solder and shrink tubing
SEPH559: and solder every fucking cut you made
SEPH559: and cover it with shrink tubing
SEPH559: get a heat gun
SEPH559: make sure it's wired exactly how it was before you started
SEPH559: then at least your car will work
SEPH559: the V1 install I'd leave to your dealership's audio mexican
SHAHAB323IS: well see i didn't cut anything
SHAHAB323IS: i used wire tap like crimp connections
SHAHAB323IS: on 4 wire
SHAHAB323IS: wires
SEPH559: see
SHAHAB323IS: 2 from sunroof switch
SEPH559: you did cut it
SHAHAB323IS: 2 for map lights
SEPH559: with those
SEPH559: but you probably used the wrong gauge and cut the wire
SHAHAB323IS: the wires are still connected though
SEPH559: but inside
SEPH559: they are cut
SHAHAB323IS: the crimp connections didn't go completely through
SEPH559: there's no other explanation
SHAHAB323IS: ok so what should i do with that
SHAHAB323IS: electrical tape it?
SEPH559: cut them all the way exactly where the crimp was
SHAHAB323IS: i really don't want to put a dab of solder on there
SEPH559: expose the wiring
SHAHAB323IS: ok
SEPH559: twist it together and solder it to keep it from coming apart
SEPH559: and seal it with shrink tubing
SHAHAB323IS: ok
SEPH559: remember you have to put the shrink tubing on the wire before you solder it
SHAHAB323IS: wait what
SEPH559: ok
SEPH559: you have two pieces of wire you're soldering together
SEPH559: ___ _____
SEPH559: if you solder them together, they are one piece _____
SEPH559: the shrink tubing is a tube
SEPH559: there's no way to get it on after they're soldered together
SHAHAB323IS: ok yeah
SHAHAB323IS: thanks man for helping me with this just to let ya know that right now
SEPH559: and only use a little bit of flux

Auto response from SHAHAB323IS: asdfasdfasdf

SHAHAB323IS: because i am fucked
SHAHAB323IS returned at 8:50:06 PM.
SEPH559: it just needs to be able to hold the connection together
SEPH559: just do that everywhere you messed with a wire
SEPH559: and that should fix it
SEPH559: it's probably just one or two that have breaks in them
SHAHAB323IS: ok i only messed with 4 wires
SEPH559: but do them all just to be safe
SHAHAB323IS: so that shouldn't be too bad
SHAHAB323IS: so then about the icv
SHAHAB323IS: car turns on
SEPH559: don't mess with that
SEPH559: unless it still doesn't work after you fix the wiring

SHAHAB323IS: engine dies immediately
SHAHAB323IS: unless gas is held in
SEPH559: that's because the ICV allows air in when the T/B is closed
SHAHAB323IS: ok and you think that'll fix the tail light failure too
SEPH559: to control the idle
SEPH559: if it's stuck closed
SEPH559: engine dies
SHAHAB323IS: yup ok
SHAHAB323IS: so fix the wiring first
SEPH559: yeah
SEPH559: it's possible the ICV isn't recieving power
SHAHAB323IS: and you think that'll fix the tail light and parking light
SEPH559: who knows
SEPH559: it ought to
SEPH559: unless you shorted something with the V1
SHAHAB323IS: ok yeah maybe since the wiring is fucke dup
SEPH559: and then you're really fucked
SHAHAB323IS: but like the engine ran fine after the sunroof fucked up
SEPH559: but that's a low draw device
SHAHAB323IS: but not after the map lights
SEPH559: it's not likely
SHAHAB323IS: yeah i mean the first wire tap
SEPH559: then your ICV problem is probably electrical
SHAHAB323IS: i turned on the v1 and the sunroof opened normally
SHAHAB323IS: but then it wouldn't close
SEPH559: which is possible because it is a solenoid
SEPH559: if this all works out and it all gets fixed
SEPH559: leave the V1 install to a mexican audio specialist
SEPH559: they're good and they're insured
SHAHAB323IS: lol we'll see
SHAHAB323IS: i installed my buddies no issues
SHAHAB323IS: works perfect
SEPH559: anyway
SEPH559: you have a 323
SHAHAB323IS: i know
SEPH559: that car isn't fast enough to get a speeding ticket
SEPH559: haha
SHAHAB323IS: 135mph downhill baby
SEPH559: word dog
SHAHAB323IS: 150
SHAHAB323IS: off a cliff
SEPH559: haha
SEPH559: if you were being pulled off a cliff maybe
SHAHAB323IS: no but like i didn't realize the engine was fucked until we put the car down after the selector rod install
SHAHAB323IS: hah
SHAHAB323IS: which that smoothed the shifting out a little
SHAHAB323IS: so that's good
SEPH559: selector rod install?
SEPH559: wtf?
SHAHAB323IS: yeah here i'll show you what i did
SEPH559: why
SEPH559: was yours broken?
SEPH559: I mean I just installed a motor and trans into a 95 M3
SHAHAB323IS: http://www.understeer.com/cheapwsr.shtml
SEPH559: those bitches are beeft
SEPH559: beefy
SHAHAB323IS: i bet
SHAHAB323IS: no it wasn't broken
SEPH559: selector rod bushing install?
SHAHAB323IS: but after i put the m-coupe shift lever in
SHAHAB323IS: no kak
SHAHAB323IS: cheap weighted selector rod
SHAHAB323IS: for smoother shifting
SHAHAB323IS: after i put the m-coupe shift lever in
SEPH559: but that defeats the purpose of a short shift kit
SHAHAB323IS: the throw was ungodlly short but the shift became not as smooth
SEPH559: now you have like 10x more effort required
SHAHAB323IS: really?
SEPH559: dude
SHAHAB323IS: it feels shorter and easier to me right now
SEPH559: short shift kits increase shifter effort
SEPH559: and more weight just makes it worse
SHAHAB323IS: it wasn't a kit
SHAHAB323IS: just the shift lever
SEPH559: that's all that ssk's are
SHAHAB323IS: it's longer and changes the pivot point
SEPH559: yup
SEPH559: that's alot of work for such a small thing
SEPH559: well at least you have solder
SEPH559: btw
SEPH559: next time
SEPH559: easier way to do it
SHAHAB323IS: yeah the solder is taped around my god damn selector rod
SEPH559: lead tape on the shift rod
SEPH559: just take off the shift boot and go to town
SHAHAB323IS: wow
SHAHAB323IS: fuck understeer
SHAHAB323IS: lol
SEPH559: or
SHAHAB323IS: this whole day has sucked
SEPH559: you can get a UUC knob
SEPH559: those are heavier
SHAHAB323IS: fuck uuc knobs
SHAHAB323IS: this guy who has a dinan s3 m3
SHAHAB323IS: that i've driven a bunch at work
SHAHAB323IS: he has one
SHAHAB323IS: i hate it
SEPH559: don't do every cheap mod you see on the interweb
SHAHAB323IS: dude i have to
SHAHAB323IS: i'm gonna do fan delete next lol
SEPH559: nice
SHAHAB323IS: i parted it out 45 bucks for eveything after discount from dealer
SEPH559: overheating intermittent start car with an open sunroof, no windows or lights
SEPH559: awesome
SHAHAB323IS: hey the sunroof is closed
SHAHAB323IS: i took an allen wrench to the motor
SHAHAB323IS: it's funny i have every god damn reparir manual
SEPH559: hahaha
SHAHAB323IS: chilton, hanes, and bentley
SHAHAB323IS: and they all don't say shit about the sunroof
SEPH559: you definitely interrupted the return motor
SHAHAB323IS: they say too complicated for joo
SEPH559: definitely
SHAHAB323IS: take it to teh deler
SHAHAB323IS: daler
SHAHAB323IS: dealer
SHAHAB323IS: fuck
SHAHAB323IS: i'm so fucked
SHAHAB323IS: lol
SEPH559: ok
SEPH559: one last pearl of wisdom
SEPH559: Measure twice
SEPH559: cut once
SHAHAB323IS: ok i'm gonna go try to fix those 4 wires
SHAHAB323IS: if that doesn't workw
SHAHAB323IS: work
SHAHAB323IS: well i'll be back
SEPH559: not too much flux
SHAHAB323IS: i'm just gonna expose and electircal tape
SHAHAB323IS: now until tommorow
SHAHAB323IS: then i'll get the tubing
SEPH559: just enough to make the wiring look silver
SEPH559: it takes like a drop
SEPH559: good luck
SEPH559: don't drop any on your skin
SEPH559: it burns alot
SHAHAB323IS: solder?
SEPH559: yeah
SHAHAB323IS: i know at least know how to solder
SHAHAB323IS: don't worry
SHAHAB323IS: lol
SHAHAB323IS: i'll be back
SEPH559: ok
SEPH559: good luck
SHAHAB323IS is idle at 9:14:07 PM
