my girlfreind's dad is from there, apparently there are a lot of jews in that area. how far is that from the DC area?

I live about 2 hours from Charleston, but I live in Ohio. Nothing to exciting around there or here for that matter. I may be able to swing down and hang out or something.

possibly. Depends when in Sept. My anniversary is on the 28th. and our friends are getting married on the 27th. So that week end is out.
