A lot of other forums require that the account be approved before posting. I vote we implement something like this. It would really cut down on the amount of spam by 100%.....Just a thought.

Typically the way that it works is whenever a member goes to register, their info is sent to the Admin(s) and they have to click a button to approve the member before they can post etc.
that would be great, but how would you know, and wouldnt it scare off new potential good members? plus I dont know how many people sign up each day (spammers or not), but that would have to be a full time job to cover every new person that signed up, send them and email and then the new member would have to wait before posting. He/she may just want to ask why his E34 shimmys at 55mph. just some food for thought. I despise the spammers as much as the next guy.

because many forums now have this process and are still flourishing lol...
I'm actually quite surprised with the support this is getting, i thought everyone would hate the idea..

Ok, so if the new member is approved by the admin., whats to keep them from posting spam after they are approved? I guess I dont see the point...
I mean, how does the admin. know that this new potential member is not a spammer?
Spammers hopefully wouldn't go through the effort of the procedure, just to spam one or two threads, it's not worth their time(hopefully)

And it's not one admin that approves. Any admin can approve and we usually have at least one admin on throughout the day so the guy who wants to ask a quick question shouldn't have to wait long.
'
edit: I take that back... I think it's only Global Mods that can approve... I'm not sure how many of those we have... but aren't most of our mods Global Mods now?
I dont know. A lot of people come on this forum with questions about their cars. They join, and they ask. We respond and our good nature keeps them as members here.
Having an approval process would just delay them asking their questions and i'm sure they wouldnt want to come back the next day on some website they just randomnly found online.
