Email validation, with Admin Approval, that's the process.
Most spammers or fake members, register with fake or disposal email addresses. It will discourage most, but not prevent all, to go thru' the hassle of email validation.
Then, when admin looks at their IP and email address for approval,
that will determine if the IP is thru' genuine server, or thru' a proxy,
or one of those notorious sites... .ru, etc with names you can't pronounce.
This is the latest spamming tactics they are using out there.
Most of them register, and never even post, I dunno why...waiting on a gameplan...or maybe to harvest member info.?
Thanks Pirate.
I'm actually coping with this problem over at a new site.
Just had to delete 7 fake members past week or so, and it's on a new site,
where the membership is still very small, where new registration is slow
and can be managed and screened manually.
IF we were to designate say a dozen regular, uppper gear members, and allow them limited ban capabilties, say, they can ban memebers with less than 20 posts ONLY, we could have this covered within no time, feasibly.
ya something has gotta be done. today i was scolling down in a thread and saw a pic of a dick cumming on tits and these links about britney spears nude or somethign. come on we cant have that kind of shit...

E-mail verification should be the max required. Havign an admin approval could at times take hours, which discourages new members signing up from asking the questions they have on their minds.
We're lookign at our own convenience rather than payign attention to what keeps this site growing.
The spam isnt as out of control as you think.
I've noticed a bit extra spam in the newbie intro topics, maybe more moderation should be delegated to this section amongst current mods.
