Linking to threads with old URLs

When using a URL with the format we had when we were bmw-forums, one is redirected to the forums front page.

For instance, the following link is no good anymore:
http://www.bmw-forums.com/forum/inde...howtopic=28299

I am sure you are aware of this, but I believe something should be done to fix this. I often find links to bmw-forums from search engines, but they are pretty much no good if they do not direct the browser to the page that actually contains the information of interest.

Unfortunately when we upgraded the forum in Sept it changed the ID's of the old threads and the page that threads were displayed with. (uses showthread.php now instead of index.php?showtopic)

I have looked into linking up the old thread id's with new ones, but haven't had the time to do it properly. I will have another look soon (will be offline for a month)

I think the development time is worth the trouble. I am sure we aremissing out on many new members and or guests because they are not linked to what they want. WIth what I know about scripting, etc., I know enoughto know that it is not impossible. I think fixing this will be beneficial. I understand you have other stuff to work on, so I will not bug you about this for the next two months or so.

Thanks for all your work.
