got my package from bavauto today- 3 FREAKING DAYS SHIPPING!! WOW. That is one hell of a business. Props to them for such a great experience. But anyway, bavauto sent my kit nice and tidy, along with their own instructions! I installed it easily with their illustrated directions, and now im pimpin... Their pics included a heat shield, but I didnt see that as an option, as I would have bought it. First response is much better sound, but only a feelable improvement in throttle response and accelaration. e34/net is stupid, there is NO way this decreases Hp. I love it, although kinda pricey for just an average kit, I like it. My shipment from BM town is enroute(60 shipping dollars later...) which is a stress bar and smoked amber turn signals.
AFTER TYPING ALL THAT, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO POST PICS. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME??
So overall you say its worth it? Cuz for Christmas or after it I am going to get my E34 535i chipped and maybe exhaust also and was thinking about throwing a "CAN" into it to go along!
I just received the Racing Dynamics heat sheild for my 97 528i after doing the HD TECNIK and K+N
filter and the thing does not fit. The hole for the intake tube is fine but there is about an inch too much plastic above it where it should seal to the underside of the hood when it is closed. Hence the hood will not close. Since it is really nicely finished with the weatherstrip and otherwise fits like a glove I am going to send it back and have them do the cutting and put the weatherstrip back on. It's made out of molded fiberglass and I can see splintering the whole thing just trying to shave off an inch or so off the top edge. They may have taken their measurements on a car with no under hood padding but even if that was removed, I still don't think the hood would close on the drivers side all the way.
I kind of feel sorry for someone who spends the big bucks for the tube from one of the tuner shops when the pipe fitting works so well. On the 97 there is no temp sensor to tap into like some of the earlier cars so it really is just 3 hose clamps. The shield is worth the money. The trash can went back in after the ill fitting RD heatshield came out and it does help the area around the filter stay cooler than the rest of the engine bay . There are plenty of things to tie into in the way of support and making a bracket to support the AFM and CAI is no problem if you do not use a shield . The Racing Dynamics shield supports everything very well with no bracket so I hope I can get it sent back with the slight modification needed and get rid of the zip ties I have supporting my whole CAI and AFM without having to make a permanant bracket yet
I made a preety good fittting trash can heat shield, but it's color is WHITE. Could I paint it, or would the engine heat melt it? Also, I want to get a sort of raim-air thing going, but I dont want to take out the right bright. Any ideas?
