After the unbelievable shine I did to my 3 series, my friend came over to visit and without him knowing I zaino'd the car, he asked why my car was 'abnormally shiney' I told him I Zaino'd it; he touched my hood and the next night ordered a set.

Today we zaino'd my bros car and his Jetta. I was teaching my friend how to use it and he learned quite well. Here are the cars:

-2000 M Roadster in Cosmos Black. The exterior color is a type of metallic black and IMO very hard to get it shine like for example Jet Black which is not metallic. Before it was Zaino'd it was quite clean. Paint was pretty smooth.

-2000 VW Jetta 2.0 in a Non-Metallic Black. The black is very much like my Jet Black 3 series...i knew it had potential to shine. The paint condition was pretty bad; some areas were VERY rough...almost like it had no clear coat.

It is said that ClayBar is strongly recommended, but we really did not have the time to do it. The VW needed badly.

PICS: Ok it took us 4 hours to do both cars, soap wash, 2 layers of Z5 (swirl polish), 1 layer of Z2 (polish) and 3 layers of Z6 (gloss enhancer) on each car. The VW was alot 'better' than before it was Zaino'd, but it still needs more to get it good. The M on the other hand, started with nice paint already, shined like a dream.

I was hoping to take pics during early evening, but we finished around 8:30pm and the sun was down

Some photos were pretty bad; I did not have a lens hood so lens flare was almost unavoidable.

Beautiful...except you need to scrub the tires on that Jetta, and then put something on them. The brown is ruining the look of the car right now.

see today's zaino sesson was strictly body work. we only had time to do the body, nothing more.

next week session we will try to touch everything else.

How long does it take to do that to a car? Would you reccomend doing it on an alpine white 98 323? Is it hard to do, like waxing? How much does a kit or something cost?
and, what do you mean 'touch everything else'... didn't you just do the whole car? :P

this zaino session, all we did was wash the car, and waxed/polished the body. We did not clean the interior, clean the wheels, use tire shine, and no engine bay clean nor window clean.

The normal kit costs about $85. It includes the following: Z2=car polish, Z5=car polish w/ swirl remover, Z18= claybar, Z6=gloss enhancer spray, Z7=zaino car wash solution, a couple applicators, ZFX=Cure accelerator w/ bottles.

THats basicallly wall you need. They have the larger kit, which includes all that plus leather, glass, tire stuff. *I really didnt need all that. ($120 about)

The thing with Zaino is, the more layers you put, the more it looks better. THis is not true with almost any other waxes out there. Most waxes after 3 layers start to cloud.

Additionally, for example with the Meguires 3step process which I used to use: apply paint cleaner...buff out, apply polish....buff out, and apply wax...buff out. That is 3 layers right there. To equal that with zaino, all you do is apply either Z2 or Z5...thats it.

Zaino is very easy to use, there is actually prep work involved.

1) is to mix the ZFX solution to either Z2 or Z5. (directions come with package)
2) once that is done, (if its your first time) wash the car with dish liquid soap)
3) dry the car off and apply either the "ZFX cured Z2 or Z5" with Z6. For each car panel, you use about 5 drops of the ZFX cured Z2 or Z5 on the applicator and one spray of Z6 on the applicator.
4) wait about 30 mins for it to bond with the car (the car should look really weird)
5) buff it out with a microfiber cloth or terry cloth.
6) do a nice spray of Z6 to the entire car and wipe immediatly with a microfiber cloth or terry cloth

^^this equals one layer. I would say a typical layer should take about 1 hour (without washing the car)

After the very first layer, you should do more. But never again do you use the dish liquid soap. ONLY if you want to start everything over, you use the dish liquid soap. After zaino'd the car and it gets dirty, you use the Z7 (zaino carwash) to wash the car...the Z7 keeps the existing zaino on the car.

It is said, you should do 3 layers on your first session. One week, do another 3 layers. THen for every month after that, do one layer.

Z2 and Z5 are very similar. Z2 is strictly a polish. Z5 is a polish and it also removes swirl marks. Typically, if you think you need to get rid of swirl marks, you use the Z5 first. Keep using it layer upon layer till you think there are no more swirl marks. Then you start using the Z2.

I would recommend this to any car color...its not that it looks great, it also protects.

Cool, thanks for that write-up, woobiee. I've got a black car and I've been itching for something to get rid of the swirl marks. I just ordered some Z5 and claybar (I already have Z2 and Z6). Hopefully that will do the trick!

What would you guys recommend that is cheaper? Or should I just save and get a Zaino kit? How much are they? The one that comes with everything?
