Over the weekend I set out to make my own clutch stop. My bro bought one from a member from another forum and it inspired me; Though his clutch stop is better than mine.

What is a clutch stop?
Most cars have extra play in the clutch pedal, some as much as an extra 6" of just unecessary movement. A clutch stop eliminates the extra play and/or customizes how far the clutch pedal goes. The result is faster and smoother shifts.

Well this is version one of my clutch stop. Its pretty ghetto (I KNOW!) But its a temparary solution. The clutch stop that my brother bought from that guy used an 'elevator bolt' which I could not get a hold of. That is the main reason why his is better than mine.

From the picture below you can see the left one as the stock clutch stop vs the right one as my home made clutch stop. You can immediate see how pathetic the stock one is. The stock clutch stop is about 1/4". Mine came at about 3/4". This extra 1/2" eliminated the extra play; basically when i depress the clutch pedal fully, it is a couple centimeters over the engagement point, vs the stock couple inches.

One downside is whenever i depress the clutch i hear a 'clink' sound; its the pedal hitting the metal stopper. My next version of the clutch stop will include rubber stoppers to eliminate the sound.

I encourage ppl to make their own. Its a very simple mod. The screw is 3/8" and the length of the screw can be 1-2" depending on your driving preference. From there, you will need to use your imagination; basically a plate for the clutch pedal to hit and somehow secure the whole contraption. I used a couple washers and a nut.

Total cost: 0.83 at home depot.

VERSION 2

well with the low amount of replies, it seems either no one cares or few ppl drive stick ghead . But since this is an informative forums, ill continue to update myself

today i finally got the elevator bolts i was talking about. this totally simplified the clutch stop. My friend (who is a mechanical engineer major) helped me out with some lathing of the circular lip. By lathing the lip, I could now install the stock rubber stopper from the stock clutch stop to the new and improved version 2 homemade clutch stop.

I think version 2 is the farthest ill go. Its pretty much perfect; fast smooth shifts with no noise.

how do you determine EXACTLY how much extra play there is? cuz if you went overkill on this it would be really bad for the tranny right?

its basically by feel.

its very obvious where the engagement point is (atleast in my car). there is a point where the clutch wants to pop back up to rest. i just have the stopper a bit more over the engagement point (still having a tiny bit of free play, just to be safe)
