japenese cars - nice cars, well built, reliable...however the have no driver feedback.

american cars - hate em, all of them including the viper. Sorry if I offend everyone but I just don't like them.

ahh wha? pfftt im ... flabbergasted... how can you not like the viper.
Even if it is the king of all pushrods. How can you argue with 500 ft\lbs of torque at 2500 rpms?!
Im going to go cry in my room now.

japanese cars are pretty much what cam stated...only good for point a to point b...except for cars like the supra, rx-7, and such

american cars...may have lots of power but their still such low tech motors...8 liters for the viper to get 500 hp...WTF?

American motors may be low tech, they may use old technology, this is true and i agree. But the viper engine is anything but low tech, though it may use old methods. Now i hate the american car as much as the next guy, but everything is very tuned on the new viper. Especially the valvetrain and breathing characteristics of the engine. You say it only makes 500 hp, this is because of emmisions. The 8.3 liter engine uses A LOT of fuel, so they do what they did with the 325e, retard the timing and regulate the fuel use. However what 500 hp and 500 ft/lbs of torque is thats so amazing is that you get it at 2300 rpms. Does your 500 hp/trq m3 or m5 make it at 2500? no it makes it at 4-5k rpms if not higher. And the vipers power curve is as flat as any prepubesent elementary school girl. And as for the pushrods, yea i hate them too, but these arnt low tech ones, using roller rockers and all it has a red line of 6500, 7k max, similar to many BMWs out there. I dont want to say whos right american vs import, its like the ever going argument of mary ann vs ginger, coke vs pepsi, super charger vs turbo charger. I just cant stand people who are so incredibly biased and 1 sided they wont even look to consider the other side.

Nah, it's called having an opinion. Just because it doesn't mesh with your does not make them ignorant. Maybe uninformed is a better word huh, ignorance has such a negative connotation. Besides, there is no reason to insult people.

Regardless of origin, every person is going to have their likes and dislikes. The question is - Are you talking overall package, or are you talking just engine characterisitics? Are you considering the lines of the body, the interior, ride quality, and power? Your original question was " What do you think about japanese cars? (and other cars...ie american, german, english, etc) ". Not very specific there.

For me it depends. Thre are many old muscle cars that I really dig, 53 Vette, 66 Mustang, 70 Boss Mustang, 69 Camaro. I think the Gen 3 Integras are sweet, not so much for the RSX. I'm not going to get into discussion of HP/tourque between models because I'm out of my league. Along those same lines I think any car in yellow is the ugliest thing in the world, yes that does inclide M3s.

Eh, whatever, I'm babbling.

i admit the viper looks nice but the hp per liter ratio is too low

Last post on this, but again on vipers, vipers have awesome handling. double wishbone on the front and live axle on the back (unfortunately) ANd it has 345s stock and can fit up to 450 with a tubb kit. That should be enough rubber to harness the power. As for the low hp to literage ratio, refer to my previous statement on the fuel regulation. Do you know anyother production cars that can make 1000 hp/tq running only 8 psi of boost? And again im not trying to force those... just educate everyone to make them open their eyes and consider the other side.

I like Japanese cars, alot. I used to own a supra and it was a great car. I also love RX-7s and miatas and NSXs and 350Zs and most of their performance sedans. I prefer Japanese to American, and European to Japanese in most cases. As far as American cars are concerned, the upcoming GTO is good, so is the Viper and the current line of Vettes. All handle well, brake well, accellerate well, have good top speeds and look stunningly good. The Vettes and Vipers are too expensive for my taste, but the GTO gets my thumbs up. Most europeans are too expensive for their performance, as well, with the exception of the Lotus Elise (which is absent completely from the US market, where it would kick ass) which sells for the equivalent price of the 350Z and S2000. Pretty much every other european is too classy and refined to be inexpensive. BMWs are great cars, but they're really expensive for their performance.

Japanese cars are well-built machines, but they have the same failings that any car would have. They are no better and no worse in the reliability department to many other automobiles. I think that the Japanese sports cars are some of the more "intense" sports cars out there. Some lack interior and exterior refinement but provide a wonderful driving experience. That's not to say that the exterior doesn't look nice as I love Z's -you can just point out a Japanese automobile.

Previous cars:

1985 Nissan 300ZX 2+2 (technically my first car, and i fell in like with 'em)
1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo (will always be a dream car of mine)
1995 Acura Integra GSR (got it for a commuter car - 33mpg freeway was nice)

Current Car:
1999 BMW 328i Sport (after driving a few bmw's i can understand the brand loyalty)
