So..we need some help.

We got a 1996 volvo 850glt. me and my dad c hanged the alternator. everythign went smoothly.

then we went to jump the car....and my dad crossed the cables. That wasnt good. Sparks..then some smoke. What happend. What broke? The cars starter turns, but no fuel aprently..because it wont start.


any advise?


oh yea
yea the starter turns with the batteries power.
also the cluster check lights dont come on.


i posted this on UB also, but i figure a couple of opinions will help.

When you reverse the cables, you get an obscenely large jolt of energy going through the car's electrical system. There could be trouble spots all over the place; no telling what's blown and what's not without testing each system individually. My bet is that lots and lots of things are blown. Sorry buddy :-(

umm check the fuse box first? haha umm the fuel issue would be the fuel pump... or hell even the ecu...

^^ Yes, definitely check the fuse box. Anybody who claims to be an engineer would design to avoid catastrophic failure as a result of somebody crossing the cables. I am sure Volvo idiotproofs (engineergin term, no offense intended) its designs.

Like salty said, check the fuel pump, etc. Troubleshoot it like you normally would without the cable-crossing incident.
