Oil Filter Destroyed

I JUST HELPED A FRIEND OF MINE CHANGE THE OIL AND FILTER IN HER CAR (94 JETTA GLS 2.0). I NOTICED THERE SOME PARTS MISSING BY THE MANIFOLD. SHE TOLD ME HER EX TOOK THEM OUT BECAUSE THEY BROKE... LON STORY SHORT, HE BORROWED THE CAR THE OTHER DAY AND CAME BACK SAYING THE CAR HAD BROKEN DOWN AND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WAS THE OIL FILTER I PUT IN THE CAR . HE SAID THE FILTER BROKE ON THE INSIDE AND PARTICLES OF THE FILTER WENT INTO THE ENGINE AND CLOGGED A BUNCH OF STUFF.

HAS ANYONE OUT THERE EVER HEARD OF AN OIL FILTER (BRAND NEW) THAT BREAKS FROM THE INDSIDE AND CLOGS THE ENGINE PARTS? ghead

oil filters are made so that will not happen. sure it is possible but not likely.

I have heard of several FRAM filters collapsing and doing just this, but I have never SEEN it personally.

IT HAD A FRAM BEFORE AND HE LEFT IT THERE FOREVER. IT WAS APROX. 3MO/ 3000 MI. PAST DUE. THE ONE I USED WAS AN STP AND IT JUST BOGLES THE MIND 'CAUSE I NEVER HEARD OF THIS ghead

i have heard of them sucking in the sides on a high oil pressure system , but never on a normal car

(edit) the car still ran fine , just a small drop in oil pressure (5-10psi)

yea fram filters are shit, stp i know nothing about but because autozone carries them they probably suck

i think i used mann filters on my car, suppoosedly its an oem replacement.
