Beginning in June 2004, U.S. drivers will be able to buy the latest version of the Lotus Elise!
With a total weight of only 1,980 pounds and 190 horsepower, Elise accelerates on par with cars that have more than twice as much power. According to performance figures supplied by Lotus, the Elise will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and reach a top speed near 150 mph.
Along with the car's light weight, braking performance benefits from the 11.5-inch brake rotors on all four corners, with AP Racing calipers at the front and Brembo calipers at the rear.
The suspension includes Eibach coil springs and Bilstein gas shocks. Providing grip are Yokohama Neova AD07 LTS tires designed specifically for the Elise, wrapped around 8-spoke cast alloy wheels. The tires are 175/55R16 on 5.5-inch wide wheels at the front and 225/45R17 on 7.5-inch wide wheels at the rear.
WOW! This may very well be my next car! It performs beautifully and looks amazing!

Its actually 0 - 60 in 4.7 if u get the sports package, but the fact that its sooo light is crazy, however i'm not sure how sturdy and safe the frame of the car is.

2 in the passenger... 1 on your lap... one in the trunk... yes I know she won't fit whole...
I too have safety concerns with the vehicle. It's the reason that's always kept me from getting roadster type of vehicles. I've been in too many bad car wrecks to drive an unsafe car!

I don't get why they put a 4 Cylinder Toyota engine in an "exotic" I think they should of turned to BMW, Mercedes or VW for their engine. Anyways, its still a nice car, but not safe at all

well the lotus is actually a very safe car. I think it was Lotus' parent company that focuses on automobile safety systems... so obviously the Lotus would be safe as well. THe same people who worked on the safety systems of the lotus, worked on the Aston Martins
They used the Celica VVTi engine because its.. well, a very good high revving engine. Its better than the euro "exotic" version as well. All the magazines rave the celicas nice engine theyve made great engines in the past to justify Lotus' use of it. For example - the toyota supra's inline 6 is one of the best in the world.
Well when a car weighs what ithat one does, it really doesn't need more than a 4-cyl.
btw - Thanks for the info retro! That's good to know. I'm seriously thinking about purchasing one when they become available. It seems like a great setup. If the engine is a toyota motor it shouldn't be too hard to get serviced at all!
