Britney Spears Auctions Off Mazda RX-8 for Her Charity
IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 1 -- Britney Spears and Mazda North American Operations today announced the Mazda RX-8 driven by Britney in her new "Me Against the Music" video is being auctioned for charity on eBay. All proceeds from the auction are being donated to The Britney Spears Foundation. The brand new RX-8 has been autographed by Britney on the steering wheel and hood.
Spears announced the auction during her appearances on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Regis and Kelly." Interested bidders can begin logging on today to www.ebay.com/britney . The 10-day auction will close on Thursday, December 11. Information about the auction can be found by conducting a key word search on the site's home page or by entering www.ebay.com/britney . Key words include britney, mazda and britney spears.
"The Mazda RX-8 is the icon of Mazda's product line of vehicles, so it makes sense to align it with Britney Spears -- the icon of pop music," said Robert Davis, senior vice president of marketing and product development. "Two things are certain: the winning bidder is going to receive an amazing sports car and The Britney Spears Foundation is going to receive a healthy check toward its many children's initiatives."
The Britney Spears Foundation is focused on a singular goal -- to help children. Central to the Foundation's core principles is the ability to apply the restorative aspect of entertainment to benefit children in need. It does so through the annual Britney Spears Camp for the Performing Arts and by creating fun-filled playrooms for children on extended hospital stays.
With an athletically sculpted exterior and one-of-a-kind 238-horsepower rotary engine, the Mazda RX-8 is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, freestyle door system and 18-inch wheels and tires. The Mazda RX-8 is the latest in a three-decade-long line of Mazda rotary-powered vehicles.

I heard somewhere, something about a recall on those because lack of power? My dad test drove one and said that it was nice, the suicide doors are really cool, but it had no get up and go.

No get up and go. 238hp @ 8500 rpm, good number. 159 lb-ft of torque @ 7500 rpm, low number. If you could get more torque from the rotary motor the car would scream.

Yep, in Japan it is rated at 250hp. But, when it came to the states Mazda had to add more pollution controls on it. Then, it dropped to 238hp. I think Mazda offered money and or free mods to it. The RX-8 has horse power but no torque.

they gave everyone $500 back after they bought the car or leased it for 3 years or more. it's a great deal.
webb: and it still does 0 to 60 in 5.9 seconds, pretty impressive with no torque. and another thing, the s2000 has less torque than a 325 but it's still does 0 to 60 in the 5's, REAL SLOW

so when did i say anything about either of those cars being slow? i merely stated hp is nothing without torque. you should see whom you quoted. the reason i made the statement i did is because of this "What dynamometers actually measure is torque (in pound-feet), and to convert torque to horsepower you simply multiply torque by rpm/5,252." so therefore hp is nothing without torque.

I still have to go with quantum phsyics and state that horsepower truely is without torque, just as you are a penis without balls.... useless.. It's stated in magazines even from Import guys, to old fashion gear heads. THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT... the reason a viper is soo damn wicked is because it has matching hp/tq numbers throughout it's entire RPM band, and it's why honda's will always suck donkey nuts..

Welllllll...if you Turbo Charge the Honda it won't suck, in the hp/torque department anyway. I definetely won't be able to go back to a 4 cylinder motor again unless it's turbocharged, the WRX sure is a nice piece of 4 cylinder ass :P I'm torque spoiled now though, I have yet to drive a V8 and I'm not sure I want too because I may become hooked.
