I was just talking to my best friend on MSN a few minutes ago and was showing him a BMW I was gonna go check out (pic below). And he said
"I think you should get a newer car that's not so fancy and cheaper to repair if needed. Like a cavalier"
"I just think you a looking a little above what you need. The fancier the car the more it's gonna cost in the end"
"a nice reliable car"
"or an sx 2.0"
I just about creamed my pants. A lot of people have been giving me a similar speel although my girlfriend would never say get a cavalier or a sx 2.0, she would say get a VW Golf. I think a lot of people have a misconception that "new" automatically means reliable. I have heard lot's of problems with brand new cars and most of the time it's little annoying things that aren't covered by the warranty or only partially covered. It's hard not having friends that are car people, I don't mind spending a little more on gas or a little more on upkeep to drive something nice or with good performance which most people don't understand. I don't want to break the bank or anything but I don't plan on getting in over my head.
I know if I end up getting a BMW people will say "WOW nice car, that must have set you back a lot" and I'll look at their New Ford Focus, civic or whatever and say "It probably cost less than your car". Some people just don't even try and then they are amazed if someone has something somewhat nice.
Phew, glad to get that off my chest.
