whump whump sound 97 528 i rear end

hello from eugene, oregon

200,000 miles on my 97 528i and recently there is a whump whump (a quiet whump) sound that, when coasting at 20 mph you can hear about 4x per second and then as you come to a stop it slows down. Not sure if it might be brake pads (stupid Les Schwabb folks have had a hard time with the brakes / rotors I've bought and have had left rear drums trued 2x in first 6 months). Or could it be something else? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Dan

a quiet whump as u describe could be a tire problem.

if the whump conicides with some vibration on braking, the suspect warped rotors or out-of round brake drums; or even wrongly aligned pads/shoes
