Hello, Do you have a sunroof? Perhaps drains are clogged.

Hello,
It seems I have the same the same problem with my 2000 528i Touring. Mine comes with the sunroof. Only the back footwell carpet is getting wet. Red somewhere that the water drains can get clogged, but how do one finds them and fix it. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks

several scenarios possible.

In addition to what friend have already mentioned:
1) are you losing coolant? If yes, possible heater core leak...
2) do you use your A/C? if yes, maybe a clog in the evaporator drain line ;-)
3) (in jest)... you didn't pee you pants did you? ;-)

please read my reply to another person. read my posting. I've had this problem and basiically,
1, it could be coming from the door panel. Plastic lining may be torn. easly repaired for abot £150.
2. Mine came from below left pollen filter. Area blocked, collected lots of water which eventually filtered below fwd panel and carpets to rear. Very expensive to clean up. Could also play havoc with electrics if not sorted.
Good luck.

well i noticed the noise of the water getting on the carpet while I'm driving and the amont of water is a lot. so I can't tell what that is. also when i check the coolant level, it is still the same. the amount of water i have collected im sure is more the the coolant fluid so that can't be the coolant fluid. and the windshield water is still good as well.
help please !!!

#1) Based on your description were you state (lots of Water) would seem to me to indicate a possible AC Drain is clogged allowing water to backup and come in onto your floor boards.

#2) if you have the tools and some time you could always remove your headliner board and water test your car to see if you have any water leaks coming in from any of your windows seals, door seals, door (rubber) window sweeps. Removing your headliner board and water testing for possible leaks will eliminate the 3 most popular responses to your question on most of the forums based on lack of knowledge.

#1 (I think)
#2 (Perhaps)
#3 (Maybe)

Once the headliner board has been removed, have a family member run the garden hose on the roof of your car while you sit in the car, your job is to be looking for any water trails, lime deposit from previous water leaks & dirt trails or physical evidence of water that would be found around window seals, door seals.

After water testing your window seals, door seals for leaks you clearly then can say the results came up either negative or positive. This is the process of elimination that is necessary to locate and resolve water leaks.

There is no quick answer, you will have to either go through the process your self or pay a professional to fix the problem.

Let me know how I can help in any way. Bill
