Aye, the next step is having the heads off for inspection - if they're fine, I'll put it back together with fresh gaskets, and a skim if necessary (natch).
I understand BMW heads are particularly unappreciative of excess heat and pressure, so I'm holding out precious little hope that they'll just be fine with a cleanup.
If they're not, oh well, it's M60B40 time, y0.
Fortunately, I'm good friends with a tech in Lovetts BMW in Swindon, so I have support on hand, should I need the heads seeing to, or just want a second opinion.
