Good morning. I am a new member...but not yet a BMW owner. Came close a few times and leaning that way again. I have come across a 1997 740 iL. Looks very sharp. Black w Beige leather. 124,000 mi. The asking price is $6950 us. It looks very clean, but as a rookie BMW buyer, are there particular things to look out for? For that year to now are there any faux pas to be concerned about ie. electrical, computer problems, ect. Anyone who can give a heads-up on this would be appreciated.
Welcome I don't know much about 7's, but I would recommend that you demand to see maintenance and service records. It is always a good idea to have the car inspected by mechanic. The price is pretty low (in my opinion), so you should be a little bit careful before you write a check.
In general, the 7 should be a delight. I hope it all works out for you.
You're welcome to stick around regardless.
What do you currently drive?

I currently drive a 4 door Acura. Not too exciting but after driving SUV's for the past 10+ years...because of kids...the Acura is practical as well as a bit of luxury. I almost bought an 87 BMW 325i 2 years ago...but the guy decided at the last minute not to sell it...and took it back to Europe with him (RCMP). It was an incredible car...his baby...only 90,000 mi, mint. I have had the bug ever since. With this 740 iL, they have all the service records...i'll investigate further, but yes, I'll be careful.
check common things that should go wrong with the 7's.sounds like a decent price for a 7 pics would be nice......but i own a 98 740 il so ill help you out

Thanks, I have some pics...not sure how to attach to this. I also have the vin# [edited VIN out for legal reasons -- drz] but not tied in with Carfax. If you know who has an unlimited, it would be interesting to see the history. It looks clean both inside and out...my concern is mechanical and electrical. Are you aware of any problems with the electrical or computer. Are the tranny's solid...ect
trannys are extremley solid...........not so much comp prob you should take it to an authorized BMW and/or european mechanic to get it checked out but it sound ok

Ouch! Still have not gotten over the Gretzky trade to L.A.! Oilers still bad! But then again I'm still not over Crawford not using Gretzky in the shootout with team Canada.
