Newbie ??

Good Afternoon All !

My name is Marcelo and live in Tucson, AZ. I recently bought 2010 328i Coupe last month and overall very happy except for the sound system. I bought this BMW over at Scottsdale, AZ BMW and it's a 1.5 hour drive back to Tucson I discovered that the sound system would break up when I played my music loud. I was very disappointed while driving home. Called the dealer and they offered no help and when US BMW came a calling they offered no help either.
I read many threads but observed no real solution. I went to good old Crutchfield and was surprised to see that they have nothing for my BMW. I guess I could install an AMP but it appears it going to be tough. I read many articles and threads but did not see any that was close to what I have. I seen a schematic that showed a 8 to 10 speaker systems. My BMW only has 5; one in each door, one under the drive seat and 2 in the rear. Well, enough said. I cried enough. Thanks All !!!! Did you buy the car as a CPO car from an actual BMW dealership? Its quite odd that if you did they refused to help. Also, define "loud"?

If you want to upgrade look at Bavarian Sound Werks (BSW) as they have lots of stereo upgrades for the older models. They may have some for a 2010 as well.

Yes, it's CPO from Scottsdale BMW, AZ. However, since I live in Tucson it's 130 miles away. I did call them but really did not offer any assistance. Furthermore, they could not help with the garage door opener. However, Homelink was able to figure out that the BMW is operating at a lower frequency so Homelink sent me a up-converter. Back to the stereo I was told by Tucson BMW that the stereo is under powered and it was designed that way. They said "Sorry" we can upgrade your system but I did not bother because I know how dealers are "very expensive". These past weeks I've been a lot of research by reading many threads and articles about upgrading my stereo system. To clarify Loud, my volume knob is approximately 80% from the CW stop. The stereo clips and breaks up and sounds like I hit a boulder or pot hole.

Ive never heard of a BMW stereo being "underpowered" or being intentionally designed that way. That's odd. I guess since their unwilling to help speaker replacement is really the only option. I would suggest checking the speakers themselves making sure the connectors are secure and the speaker isnt damaged in anyway, but this requires removal of the door panel.

Hey Vader !

There's nothing wrong with the speakers, the amp in the Head Unit can not produce enough output power to the speakers without clipping or breaking up the output signal (cheap protection). The Head Unit is only rated at 12 Watts, pretty bad.
