New member - sharing BMW experience

Hi All

I've just discovered this thread and am overwhelmed with the generosity of advise from members.

I've owned a 323iE46 for the past 9 years and still have it and love it to death. Fantastic car to drive !!

Just picked up a 2006 530IE60 about 4 weeks ago and decided to go for a drive in the country. 225 miles later, stopped for a rest and than discovered that the car just totally locked down on me. Lucky for me it is still under warranty.

The dealer ship organised for it to be towed back to their yard and it has been there since. At first they thought it was the steering lock actuator, changed that but still no go. Now the've said that the key is faulty and have ordered for a new key. Keeping fingures crossed. New key due in next week.

Has anyone else have had a similar experience?

Just to let you guys know that my car has been fixed and I've just picked it up from the workshop. It was the key...apparently something happened to the old key and it was faulty. According to the mechanic, this is the first he has come across.

Keeping fingures crossed that nothing else happens.

Great news, was it covered by their warranty? Now time to motor on.

Luckily for me, yes it was covered under warranty (used car warranty) and they covered all the costs which included RoadSide Assistance fee, car hire, towing and the cost of the key (which on its own costed $700) and they also gave us a replacement car to use whilst my car was out of action. Pretty good dealership I would reckon.

I'm based in Perth....and yes like you mentioned before....I wonder why there are not more Aussies on this forum.

I am in two minds whether I should sell my 2000 E46 which has served me for more than 8 years and is still in very good condition and a gem to drive. Parking is an issue at my place.

I guess it comes down whether or not you need the money from selling it, or whether you can afford not to.

I think that there is a bit of a weather swap going on around Australia, Melbourne is having tropical humdity at the moment, Perth is getting Victorias fires, Brisbane & Darwin is getting everyones rain and cyclones. Isn't sharing supposed to be nice?

Yes, its been pretty humid even here it Perth lately. I think we are all wearing the remnants of Cyclone Yasi....sharing !!

I saw a very well kept 735i around the same era as your 740iL on the freeway this morning. Looks classic !!

I personally like this (E38) shape over some of the new 7 series, although the new ones are getting back their appeal. Their ride comfort and finish are are a step up from the 96 Berlina that I ran upto 427250km before selling.

You'll have more humidity coming your way from Carlos and the other couple of cyclones that are brewing up north. Take car and enjoy your rides.
