I am considering purchasing a BMW. However, I really do not know one from the other. That also means that I do not know the inherent problems associated with the different series or the engines, transmissions or other setups to avoid.
Price range is between 10-15 depending if I use my car as a trade in. The kind of advice I am really looking for is the known problems associated with different configurations that I being a novice to the BMW should avoid. I am not restricted to series or whether it be a coupe, sedan or a convertible at this point.
Well the issue with that is each series and model has different known problems. Explaining them all would be a huge list im not prepared to type. Coupes have differnet issues then Cabriolet's. The 5 Series has different issues then the 3 Series.
For 10-15k you could get a pretty decent E46, or E39. You gotta look around and see what peaks your interest and then we can tell you more about the specific model that you like.
Note that almost all of the BMWs from the 90s up until 2005ish had cooling system issues. They are notorious for failing at the 100,000mile mark due to plastic components becoming brittle and cracking, but can be easily fixed and upgraded for not of money.
