After a few months since turning in my 06 E90 after lease end, I picked up this 86 E30 325ES. Sort of have that fever I get with each new car, except this one has so many directions I could go with: stocker, M3 wanna be, track car, engine swap, turbo kit? Nice to be on a grassroots level where cars are more about driving than anything else.
Any suggestions? So far the best option I have heard is using the M20 lower end (2.7L) with a M20 2.5L Top end (head, intake, camshafts, and ECU) to raise redline and add HP, while keeping some of the torque the E had. I also have ran across some chips from Dinan and Conforti on Ebay for cheap. Almost seems to good to be true? Any suggestions before I dig into these forums on the chip???
What is recommended as an easy quick upgrade for this engine? Need to add some HP to the equation. Because the car is so light, I dont think I need a whole bunch more power (yeah right) but would like it to perform more like what I know a BMW engine to be; higher revving instead of the diesel characteristic it currently has....torquey...
Darkhorse--do u still have the c43? I also have an AMG, 2002 E55; and have owned a 02 C32 with some Renntech goodies; pullies & tuning...13.0 in 1/4. AMG's are fast and fun- but BMW just have the "fingers"/ handling that makes us all feel like better drivers, faster, hit the brake a little later, etc.

What chip do you recommend?
yup... i still have the C43 & use it for a weekend car; still pretty stock except for an aftermarket tranny oil cooler. And yes, AMG's are fun & FAST to drive(NASCAR-like acceleration here)... and at 25miles to a gallon for a V-8, she's a keeper.
RE: performance chips.... you'll see several on the market DINAN, TURNER, etc... and then, there's the generics(copies). Funny thing is, no matter what price you decide to pay whether it's $200.- or $60.-(for a chip on eBay) the performance change you will get is the SAME!
WHY?... because the generics are virtual copies of the top brands. People that make generics do not have the R&D to come up with individual EEPROM maps so what they do is buy a EEPROM encoder online and copy them onto blank EEPROM chips, and sell them on the market.
