Greetings everyone,

I recently purchased a 1989 525i series. The previous owner replaced the original engine with the M50 series. I think i have electrical issues, but one resolved it should be fun to drive. The check engine light and the odometer reading are staying on even when the vehicle is not running and the key is out of the ignition. It's draining my battery.

I don't know where to begin. Once the car is started the light goes out. shut it off the check engine light comes on with the odometer/trip digital readout and stays on. I have no clue. Any suggestions anyone has would be helpful.

Sound like there is a relay that is either wired wrong or the wrong type.
