New and looking for advice

Hi Everyone,

I had an old 1984 528i a while ago and am looking to purchase another bmw soon but don't have tons of money to spend on it.

My question is: How would you go about buying a bmw for under $10,000? Which models would you buy and which ones would you stay away from?

$10,000 wow, would love to spend that on a car, I would go for 5 & 7 series, but it depends on what you want out of a car, family , boy racer, horse person ???, coupe, saloon, tourer,2, 3, 4, or 5 door,do you worry about running costs fuel etc.

I dunno' what kind of BMW's you have across the pond there, but you would be hard pressed to get a horse in to one over here...it would be in many, many small, little itty bitty pieces.
Ten grand is a nice little chunk of cash to be able to spend on a new(to you) BMW, you should have some pretty decent options. Between a 5 & 7, i would go 5 personally...smaller, better in the city...blah, blah, blah, although a 7 is a damn nice ride.

You can get a nice 5 series with under 75,000 miles for about $8,500 to $10,000.

Welcome to the Werkz, like the others have mentioned it depends on what your needs/desires are. You can get into a decent 3 series for 10k, I don't know what the market is like for the 5's and 7's though. Good luck :

get a E39 530. most bombproof car BMW has put out to date IMO.

you can procure E39's for all sorts of prices and shapes......

FWIW i picked up a 01 530 w a blown headgasket for 5500 bucks 3 years ago. i've put 60,000 miles on it in 3 years.
i flipped a 02 530 w/ a blown headgasket for 3800 bucks last year and carmax bought it for 10G


if it were me to buy another E39 to keep, i would look for a 03 (last year) 530 sport package w/ an auto. perfect car that will last for a LONG time. i fully plan to keep my 530 till around 200-250K.... it will still be worth a few grand
