A couple of weeks ago we had the windshield wiper fast speed only thing. I also have a German Ford Granada Mk 2 which I have had for 20 years. The wiper stalk on this has been replaced a couple of times taking about 15 mins to do. So I thought how much harder can it be on a BMW. Big mistake. The first attempt was in the dark because my wife needed the car next day and the weather was terrible. I gave up after about an hour after having to destroy the shroud with a wrench because I could not remove the top screw and unable to to remove the panel to access the cables. Eventually I found the screw which was holding the panel which was to the left of the steering wheel on a RHD car. I bought a used stalk for £15 and eventually was able to connect it. It did not work. I returned the stalk and spoke to the guy who said it was one of two things probably. The first was the motor and the second was the relay. Because the relay was the easiest to try that's what we did and that was the cure. He took the stalk back and allowed me the £15 against a used relay at £25. If anybody doesn't know where the relay is, it is just behind the bonnet catch and is a blue plastic unit. At the moment we have no shroud but I am still looking.
