New to BMW and have 2 questions on quality

I just acquired my first BMW about 2 months ago, a 2007 6cyl 328XI sedan and have I have 2 questions on the quality.

The first has to do with the transmission, which is an automatic. I have noticed that when I give it gas, like starting out from a stopped position to cross an intersection, the car seems to hesitate, almost to the point where it slows down and then the transmission kicks in and seems to downshift and then it takes off. Not a very smooth transition at all and I really noticed the difference after taking out my wife's PT Cruiser and noticed that it has a very smooth transition.

My second question is in regards to the radio. I got the standard AM/FM stereo radio and find that listening to the FM stations and CD player sound good but I like to listen to talk radio, which is on AM and quite frankly the AM quality sucks. It sound really tinny and adjusting the bass and treble don't help.

Any one else have similar experiences with either of these?

Thank you,
