New to BMW

My daughter will pick up her 1998 328i Convertible on Monday. She is, without a doubt, very excited! Me too, as I will be her "mechanic" of sorts. I told her it would be a privilage to work on the car if the problem is not "out of my league". My first question is; What is the main differences between 323, 5 and 8's?
I do have one issue to deal with when we get it, the top does not work electrically. I am hoping for a small problem there, we'll see. I have checked out the forum and can see alot of good information available.

323= 2300cc 325= 2500cc 328= 2800cc the engine size is the main difference followed by some suspension parts, as for the hood you wont really know until you get the car.
