Hi Guys,
I need some advice. I bought a brand new 525d in 2009. Last October while driving it the engine suddenly conked out. It was a hot sunny day. The BMW tow truck picked up the vehicle and delivered it to the dealership.
Their diagnosis showed a water intrusion into the engine. They blamed me for driving the car through high water and floods. I told them to check for any other signs of water in the engine or the compartment or carpet and there was none.
It goes to prove that there was no flood but simply an engine malfunction caused by a factory defect.
The dealer does not want to honor my warranty.
Has this happened to anyone with a turbo diesel engine?
Do you have any suggestions? Thanks and God bless.

How much water in the engine are we talking about? Was there any signs of water in the fuel filter or air filter body? Really they are the only two paths for anything to make it into the engine. I'd be contacting the Philippines Head Office for BMW about this, and possibly Germany, it could be the start of a bigger issue for that model? Who knows?

The BMW mechanic said water went through the aircleaner. The car was not wet and there was no flood. I told them to investigate further how this could have happened.

I will appreciate your help to speak with BMW Munich or Singapore. Apparently in the Philippines we only have an authorized importer. The BMW Philippines has pulled out. We are under the Asian office of BMW in Singapore.
This has made things more difficult. It seems the dealer does not seem to care less and conveniently wants to put the blame on me.


Im sure this must be part of a bigger engine defect that may be due to a design flaw, and engine malfunction.

They did not give me a reply on how much water went through the engine. Tehy did not seem to know. But simply since there was water. The warranty is void.
