Hi, I found this site by doing a Yahoo search for BMW forums. I don't yet own a BMW but I dying to. Just need to do my research and get answers to questions.
I'm frustrated by local mechanics who want to be paid for nothing or worse doing damage. Repeatedly locals do inexplicable "tests" like cutting wire harnesses to see if it helps. So I'm natually afraid to let just anybody take my car and "work" on it.
I find myself out of my depth on my 528 not starting and I am looking for a crusty old mechanic who actually knows what system failures to expect on a 528 with 165k miles.
I have a close friend that works for the BMW parts department and so, when ever I need to replace or get something. I get it at wholesale and install it myself... saves me a ton of money.
Just got signed in after I googled a 5 series problem I have with a recently purchased 2001 528 touring, cause I couldn't see a van. Last year the little lady and I wanted to do some more weekend get aways so I sold a low milage 67 GTO and picked up a 48000 mile 2001 M3. After just getting back from a 1200 mile weekend wedding run all I can say is what a blast, plus 29 mpg. I came here with a long history in Saabs and enjoy the passion euro car owners have with their vehicles. Am just learning how to navigate the sight, looking forward to all.
