Hi Overheating 520sei 24v

Hi All

I came across you guys when looking for some help with a BMW I have bought.

Its a J Reg 1991 520sei 24v I did buy a 535 but the insurance was sky high as I have points and No noclaims.

Anyway Car overheats. When you switch it on engine starts fine, leave the car ticking over and the temp gauge slowly moves straight across and the cars overheating takes 5 to 10 mins to do this

Wonder if anyone knows where I can find a check list of possible faults.

My guess is the head gasket but Id like to be 100% sure.

Head gasket: you will have like a mayo substance either in the rad or on the dipstick.
