HELP!! need some urgent advice 530D turbo failure?
hi everyone,
I own a 2005 530D auto BMW. A few days the car developed a lack of power sympton while i tried to accelerate, when i put my foot down on the accelerator it would not go past 15-20mph. The revs will slowly build up, then there was a sudden boost of power after approx 20 secs and it will drive normal.
To cut a long story short, i took it to my local mechanic, he suspected mass air flow meter or the guibo (what ever that is?).
To make sure he took the car to a BMW dealers to get a diagnostic report. While the car was at the dealers undergoing checks for the MAF meter the dealers notified me that my turbo had failed and the engine started to run on its own oil and it is completely damaged.
they quoted me approx 19,000 (yes nineteen thousand pounds) for the repair, but told me BMW GB are willing to pay 40% for the parts, which still leaves me nearly 12,000 to pay.
WTF.....Its down to them as they should have instantly stopped the engine, I would go and see a solicitor...seriously
When a diesel engine starts running on its own oil it's revs increase and increase on there own until its at max and blows and they didnt notice the car revs going up on there own to max in a workshop......dont think so!!!

hi, thanks for the reply.
they stated the engine could not be turned off, it basically had to stop on its own accord.
will be taking legal advice to find out where i stand, as they did not warn me that this could happen if they proceeded the test
Probably why they coulnd stop the engine as if it was manual you just stall it in 5th gear, I would have thought they would have still tried to block off the intake, but obviously didnt, I wish you luck at the briefs, you should have a case as the the car was in their care.
This happened to my van whilst it was in for MOT and they put to much oil in it, they did manage to stop it but it was to late, engine rattled like a tin can and they replaced the engine as they were insured for this sort of event, so Im sure BMW will be insured also.
