Smile Help with my E36 ?

Hi everyone,

What an amazing forum! I have a problem with my 318is BMW. I turn the key to start it and all the lights come on, radio starts but no engine turn over. I was advised that EWS system can sometimes be the problem if car battery voltage too low. Advised to turn key to start position and hold it there for 2 seconds and then car will start. Not good, did not happen. If I start it with jumper leads it starts every time. I am thinking battery but it is only 2 years old.

It does not get used that often as it is a second car so do you think it is battery or has someone got another suggestion. I did notice thread about bypassing the EWS. Could that be the way to go?

Thank you

When you try to start it what does it sound like? Does it sound like its trying to turn over? It could be an issue with the alternator, or a Vacuum leak.

Hi, no it does't turn over at all. I have now discovered that it is the starter motor. It must have been on its way out. So have taken it out and tested it. Definitely dead. Waiting for a new one. Thank you for your help
