I'm considering switching teams, auto wise. My goal is to turbo a 3 series for some track days and maybe autocross. My questions: which year and model is the easiest to modify, has the most available aftermarket stuff, put down around 300 rwhp and still pull about 26-28 mpg? I've noticed in the past some model/year were more popular with the aftermarket companies. Not really a budget build but don't mind spending the money for quality parts.
Thanks all, if this needs to be moved to another area lmk.

I would think a e36 Would work well! also look into an e30 and do an s50/s52 swap with a turbo

Dani:
Best deal today should be an F1 BMW Sauber which could be picked up dirty cheap since they are not doing very well at the track.
