E36 convertible horseshoe electric hood problem

Hi all, any help with this would be much appreciated.
I have a 1996 320i E36 convertible ( and an E46 323ci le coupe), My electric hood is not working but that's not the problem as I hope to get it fixed soon, in the meantime, is there any way to get the horseshoe lid cover to clip down when lowering the hood manually?
Many thanks in advance.

You need to explain this electric hood thing. That was not an OEM option as far as I am aware so this must be aftermarket correct?

Start by checking your fuses and connectors and make sure their tight.

In UK (and Australia + a few), hood = convertible top (engine bay hood is called the bonnet), and the horseshoe cover is the cover when the top (hood) is folded down.

Sorry for the language confusion and late reply, I forget that lots of people who speak English don't actually speak 'The Queens English'... Lol!
So, where were we? I have been trying to fix the 'convertible top' on my E36, so far I have tested the two motors in the boot (trunk) and they work, as does the switch, this is what happens, when I go through the standard procedure of pulling the lever under the back seat, lower the 'top' manually, hold the horseshoe down to open the boot, reset the two motors, then hold the roof switch in the 'up' position and twist the key to position 1 and hold for 12 seconds ( there is a tutorial online that I followed), once all of that is done (with the roof switch still being held in the up position) the horseshoe lowers into place as it should but does not come back up after a few seconds and raise the roof. Does anyone have any ideas? Where should I look next for the fault?
