e34 520i touring

Hi to you all,
I'm new to all this stuff. My 520i touring has just developed a couple of problems.

1. the steering was very erratic - the steering wheel would keep still and straight but when i drove over a bump in the road the car would dart all over the place! I've had the steering joints etc checked, replaced all 4 tyres and swapped the wheels front to rear and rear onto the front. The steering is ok now but at speeds of about 55 mph upwards the whole car has a shaking bumping sensation from the rear! Any ideas?

2. engine did run fine but not too good starting in damp condititons. It has recently developed a miss fire. (feels like it's only firing on 3 or 4 not all 6)
I've taken a look under the bonnet but can't even see the plugs or leads - where have they hidden them? What type do I need (copper or platinum or what?)

The vibration problem may be a wheel out of balance.

thanks for that, but had all wheels balanced when new tyres fitted 3 days ago....

Well there must be a wheel issue, as the problem seems to have shifted from front to rear with the wheel rotation. Maybe you have a bad tire. As to the miss fire, you may just need new ignition lines.

I aggree it seems to be a wheel issue but don't think it's tyres as a steering prob existed before new tyres fitted and still have a prob with new tyres. Any ideas what can go wrong with a 16" alloy wheel rim? and how can I find out which one?

I think the only way is to remove and inspect them.
