bmw 540 v8 1994

Hi All. I thought the best way to get information on my car is here.

I am a having a nightmare with my car. I dont want to sell but getting close.
I is idle in rough and cuts out. this all happened over night it was fine when parked up night before. around a wk ago I ran out of run. Run dry ! sorry. Just filled up 30 / 40 miles travel all fine. no moaning wining at all.
Untill tried to start next day !!!!! spark plugs wells and plugs covered in oil. all cleaned, but still same problem. No one knows why. Engine cuts out soon as I put it in Drive. Sounds like them horrible Subrau Impretzers.
The engine pops and mis fires.

Do you say your plug wires and the plugs were covered in oil? Maybe an oil leak to look for?

Yer well once I unscrewed them and pulled out. Told this is sort of normal. Every think is stearing me into the full pump direction. really not sure car wants to start but not

You may wanna have a look at the ignition system. Is the fuel filter recently changed?

no fuel filter not been changed since I have owned it has in the past though.
I am not that clued up on mechanics especially V8. Every one says dont fiddel.
Where will the fuel filter be located and what will I be looking for.

The filter is most likely on the fuel line, I'd start looking along the line right from the tank.

oh I guess that means looking under the car then. where would the fuel pump be located

Can't be sure, mine is in the fuel tank.

just read some one had same problem. Forgot to mention after a long journey before this ie always at fuel stations. The car would not start. Like no electric at all. Brother in Law said you had to hit some think in engine. Said the alternator need renewing. Has this cause the current problem now. Being not producing enough Fuel. Would explain a lot

It's certainly worth checking the alternator.
