Exclamation battery registration?

My wife has a 2005 545i. I've installed a new replacement battery, from N.A.P.A. auto parts. Everthing works excellent but i noticed in our service manual, it should be registered. I really do not want to go to the dealer to get them to use a scan tool to do this, if i can do it.

From what ive read about this you dont "need" to register it, but it helps prolong the life of the battery. From what i also understand that unless you have the tool to do it, you cant do it yourself. Sadly most dealers charge $100 for this.

The dealer will charge about $100.00 for this. do you really have to do it? no, but it resets the adaptations in energy history. if it is not reset it WILL cause premature wear of the battery and alternator. there is no way to do this yourself unless you have the dealer equipment. it has to be programmed into the PCM that this is a new battery. Lord Vader is right.
