I don't have my X5 yet, but will be placing an order (hopefully this month) for delivery in December. I had a hard decision - ML350 or X5 - but the X5 won out. It just does more what I want, the want I want to do it. Even if the iDrive system is a bit hard to operate, at least initially, it allows the driver to accomplish tasks in an easier fashion than the ML350. Some of the same tasks, in the ML350, are viewed in the section between the speedometer and the tachometer, wasting the much larger screen in the center console. Of course, one should concentrate on driving, while driving That, and the iPod connector is in the glove box, while it's in the center armrest on the X5 - I can actually plug in my iPhone in a much more convenient place while driving.
I'm really stoked to be replacing my 2002 RX300 with a 2008 X5. Of all cars I've dreamed of owning, BMW was second only to Mercedes-Benz, but after having seen what MB offers, I'm getting the BMW! Of course, Apple stating that BMW is 100% compatible with the iPhone certainly didn't hurt hehehe
OK - first off - WELCOME! I'm a HUGE fan of your state and am coming back 12/29 for 2 weeks of Kauai and Lana'I (both of which I've never been to - we finally did Maui 2 years ago along with a quick stop in Oahu for New Years fireworks and champagne on Waikiki beach as the wife had never been. It had been 15 years for me since I spent the summer there in 1990 and went with the family in 1988 to Oahu and the Big Island. So that's that.
Second - kindly be careful how you phrase your posts in Bimmerland as you note - this place is NOT "Mercedes-WERKZ"! That said, I hope your new X5 converts you forever to a BMW person and away from all pretenders including the Benz...
Super-psyched to come down your way. Enjoy the X5 and again - Welcome!

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I was considering either a Mercedes or BMW - until I actually did my research and drove both vehicles. Even though Mercedes has the "name" thing going for it, the BMW is STILL the better vehicle. That's why I'm going to purchase a new X5, even if my wife likes the Merc better. She won't be the primary driver anyway, and the X5 does things simpler and more elegantly than does the Merc.
BTW, how do you like my sig? I think it's within the size guidelines - if it's not, please let me know.

Signature looks great! Perfect size (at least on my remote screen this moment).
As to the "name" thing, MB has been making cheap low end cars in its catalogue the last several years, and as a result, their quality has gone down the toilet. Many friends have had big problems with them - including the high end ones.
My wife used to have a Benz and has been a BimmerFreak for the last 10 years and won't go back.
Aloha!

I made the switch last August and I'm NOT looking back !!! Unfortunately, I have to use PCs at work, but as I'm getting a good paycheck, I'll put up with it. I'm planning on visiting my local BMW dealer (ONLY BMW dealer on Oahu that is hehehe ) to place my order tomorrow afternoon! I'm getting one the same color as the one in my sig (my wife picked out the color). I'll have to wait until January to take possession, however, which sucks. Oh well, such is life - all good things are worth the wait, right?!?
